Mr. President, this past Friday, tens of thousands\n\nof pro-life Americans came to Washington, DC, to march for the 50th\n\nconsecutive year to be a voice for the voiceless. They marched because\n\nthe pro-life movement did not end with the overturning of Roe v. Wade\n\nlast summer. They marched because the end of Roe v. Wade represents a\n\nnew beginning.\n\nThanks to the Supreme Court's decision in Mississippi's Dobbs case,\n\nfor the first time in 50 years, the fate of the lives of millions of\n\nunborn children now rests not in the hands of unelected Federal judges\n\nbut in the American people and their elected representatives.\n\nI am grateful for the more than a dozen States that have answered the\n\ncall, including my State of Mississippi, where babies in the womb are\n\nnow legally protected even at their earliest and most vulnerable\n\nstages. But the fight for life also continues here in our Nation's\n\nCapital and here in the U.S. Senate. That is why it makes sense that,\n\nthis year, the March for Life's route ended not at the U.S. Supreme\n\nCourt, as in years past, but here in Congress.\n\nAs the chairman of the Senate Pro-Life Caucus, I am committed to\n\nfight for compassionate legislation to protect unborn children and\n\ntheir mothers. We will be a firewall against the radical abortion\n\nagenda of Senate Democrats and hold the Biden administration\n\naccountable for its reckless and illegal pro-abortion policies.\n\nThe contrast could not be clearer. Last week, the U.S. House of\n\nRepresentatives passed legislation that would guarantee the same basic\n\nmedical care to babies who are born alive after an attempted abortion\n\nas would be given to any other baby born in any other circumstance. I\n\nam appalled that 210 House Democrats voted against this humane\n\nlegislation. Apparently, even infanticide is no longer a bridge too\n\nfar.\n\nIn addition, this month, the Biden administration's FDA rubberstamped\n\nthe reckless distribution of chemical abortion drugs by mail and\n\ntelemedicine, as well as retail pharmacies, without ever seeing a\n\ndoctor in person. This decision turns retail pharmacies and post\n\noffices into abortion clinics.\n\nThe FDA's action provides no safeguards to screen by ultrasound for\n\ndangerous ectopic pregnancies and abandons pregnant women to suffering\n\nlife-threatening complications alone. These can include severe\n\nbleeding, infection, potential surgical intervention, and even death.\n\nThe FDA's promotion of dangerous do-it-yourself abortions is not only\n\nunsafe, it is illegal. Specifically, the decision violates longstanding\n\nFederal criminal laws that clearly prohibit the mailing of abortion\n\ndrugs. This decision puts the profits and political agenda of the\n\nabortion industry over the science and clear evidence that abortion\n\ndrugs present grave dangers to pregnant mothers and certainly their\n\nunborn babies.\n\nLater this week, I will introduce the SAVE Moms and Babies Act to\n\nreverse the FDA's reckless and illegal action and, at minimum, restore\n\nthe basic health and safety requirement for these dangerous abortion\n\ndrugs, which should never have been approved.\n\nThe issue of abortion gets to the heart about what it means to be\n\nhuman. Who counts as one of us? Why can brutally killing a baby before\n\nbirth be justified simply because the baby is inconvenient, imperfect,\n\nunwanted, unplanned, or dependent on her mother?\n\nRather than answer these questions about the humanity of the child in\n\nthe womb--the child sucking her thumb, the child whose heart is\n\nbeating, and the child whose sonogram pictures are cherished as proof\n\nof life--the abortion industry wants you to look away from the baby.\n\nOver the past year, we have witnessed millions of dollars of\n\npolitical advertisement spent to promote lies and fearmongering about\n\nthe pro-life movement and pro-life laws and that try to pit unborn\n\nchildren against their own mothers.\n\nAs a mother, a woman, and a Senator, I know we must refute these\n\nlies, because each unborn child is not a threat but a blessing, a\n\nunique and unrepeatable individual created in the image of God.\n\nIn addition, the pro-life movement cares for both pregnant moms and\n\ntheir unborn babies. More than 2,700 pregnancy centers across the\n\ncountry provide critical medical and material support for women and\n\nfamilies facing unplanned pregnancies. Several of my colleagues have\n\nalready introduced commonsense measures to support pregnant moms and\n\nfamilies, including through pregnancy centers.\n\nAs we move on from this year's March for Life and into a post-Roe\n\nera, we will never rest and we will never stop fighting until every\n\nunborn child is protected under our laws from the lethal violence of\n\nabortion.\n\nI yield the floor.", 1, "2026-03-30T01:40:41Z", "2026-04-06T17:41:40Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://www.hydesmith.senate.gov/march-life"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.9780321270227432, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
