Mr. President, I come to the floor today to pay\n\ntribute to a very special man who was held dear by many Mississippians,\n\nMississippi State University head coach Mike Leach, who passed away on\n\nDecember 12, 2022.\n\nToday, thousands of Mississippians and people from across the country\n\nwill gather in Starkville to celebrate the life of Mike Leach, who\n\nbegan his coaching at Mississippi State in 2020.\n\nCoach Leach's quirkiness, youthful spirit, and dynamic coaching style\n\nimmediately endeared him to football fans across my State. His likeable\n\nand unique personality broke barriers among schools. Whether you were\n\ncheering for Mississippi State, Jackson State, Ole Miss, Southern, or\n\nany other school, you couldn't help but chuckle at the entertaining sideline\n\ninterviews or admire how his \"Air Raid\" offense was changing the\n\ngame.\n\nCoach Leach was an attorney. He started his coaching career shortly\n\nafter graduating from law school. Mike Leach made a lasting impact on\n\nthe game of football, to be sure, but, more importantly, his\n\nextraordinary leadership and passion for the game made a lasting impact\n\non his players, his colleagues, and his loved ones.\n\nThese remarks can't fully encompass Mike Leach's life as a husband,\n\nfather, grandfather, scholar, mentor, and charitable man. Still,\n\nMississippi is blessed to have been able to call Mike Leach one of our\n\nown these past years.\n\nWhile our State mourns, we remain grateful for the memories and the\n\nstories his legacy leaves.\n\nMy heart goes out to his family and the entire Bulldog family.\n\nHail State, and rest in peace, Coach.", 1, "2026-03-30T01:40:41Z", "2026-04-08T03:32:05Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://www.hydesmith.senate.gov/remembering-mike-leach-executive-session"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.6043717041611671, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
