Mr. President, I rise to express deep appreciation\n\nfor Mississippi State Health Officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs, a friend and\n\nleader to all of the frontline healthcare workers in my State.\n\nDr. Dobbs joined the Mississippi State Department of Health as the\n\nState health officer in December 2018. After 3\\1/2\\ years and a global\n\npandemic that none of us saw coming, he will soon step down from his\n\nrole and return to the clinical side of medicine.\n\nMississippi's State health officer is responsible for directing\n\npublic health activities related to the State's many health challenges,\n\nwhich included my State's response to the COVID-19 pandemic.\n\nDr. Dobbs' experience and his expertise made him the perfect\n\nprofessional to lead Mississippi through this pandemic. With a belief\n\nthat each person in Mississippi was his patient, Dr. Dobbs worked\n\ntirelessly throughout his tenure to care for our nearly 3 million\n\nresidents. From the start, Dr. Dobbs was steadfast in informing and\n\nadvising citizens, policymakers, and healthcare providers on the best\n\npractices to combat the deadly coronavirus. He never wavered despite\n\nevolving challenges and so many tragic COVID-related deaths.\n\nHe is one of the country's most respected public health officers,\n\nhaving earned a stellar reputation for his clinical work in the field\n\nof infectious diseases. Dr. Thomas Dobbs proved himself to be the\n\nleader Mississippi needed during a very difficult time. I am saddened\n\nto see Dr. Dobbs leave the Mississippi State Department of Health, but\n\nI am confident he will continue to do great things.\n\nThere are not enough thanks in the world that could cover all that\n\nDr. Dobbs has done for Mississippi, but I say from the bottom of my\n\nheart, thank you, Dr. Dobbs. Your service and sacrifice on behalf of\n\nMississippi reflects well on you and your profession.\n\nI am also grateful for his wife, Dr. Kim Dobbs, and their two sons,\n\nWyn and Max, for sharing so much of their husband and father during\n\nthis time.\n\nAs Dr. Dobbs departs the State department of health, I look forward\n\nto continuing to work with him and the new State health officer, Dr.\n\nDan Edney, in making Mississippi healthier and happier.\n\nThank you again so much, Dr. Dobbs.", 1, "2026-03-30T01:40:41Z", "2026-04-08T02:49:02Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://www.hydesmith.senate.gov/tribute-dr-thomas-e-dobbs-iii"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 2.6875059120357037, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
