Madam President, I am pleased to commend Mr.\n\nPatrick Johnson, Jr., of Tunica, MS, for his service and contributions\n\nto the State of Mississippi while serving as the 86th president of\n\nDelta Council.\n\nOrganized in 1935, Delta Council plays an important role in uniting\n\nagricultural, business, and economic development leadership to solve\n\nproblems and promote greater opportunities in the Mississippi Delta\n\nregion, which encompasses 19 counties in northwest Mississippi.\n\nMr. Johnson has worked tirelessly this year to advance the priorities\n\nof Delta Council, including farm policy, economic development, flood\n\ncontrol, and education. As a partner in Cypress Brake Planting Company,\n\nTunica Air, Inc., and Buck Island Seed Company, he knows all too well\n\nthe challenges producers currently face with increased costs and\n\nvolatility in the agricultural industry. As a member of the Mississippi\n\nCommission on Environmental Quality, he is dedicated to helping find\n\nsolutions to the Delta's groundwater and alluvial aquifer issues so\n\nthat future generations can continue to produce crops and enjoy the\n\nrecreation that is such a large part of the rich history of the\n\nMississippi Delta. Mr. Johnson also understands the importance of\n\neconomic development to the viability of the Delta and that, through\n\nefforts like Delta Strong, the region will continue to successfully\n\nattract new opportunities.\n\nMr. Johnson assumed the role of Delta Council president during a time\n\ncharacterized by difficulties, such as the ongoing and disruptive\n\npandemic, rising inflation, and many other challenges. Patrick Johnson\n\nhas been a steady and calm leader over the past year and has\n\ncontributed his vast knowledge and service to many critical issues\n\nduring his tenure as president.\n\nOutside of his time spent working on his farm and serving Delta\n\nCouncil, Mr. Johnson contributes his time as a leader to many valuable\n\norganizations. He serves as a Mississippi Department of Environmental\n\nQuality commissioner, National Cotton Council Environmental Task Force\n\nmember, American Cotton Producers Farm Bill Task Force chairman, and\n\nTunica County Chamber of Commerce member. In addition to serving as a\n\nmember of Delta F.A.R.M., Mr. Johnson has also served on the Tunica\n\nCounty Farm Service Agency Committee and is a past director of the\n\nTunica County Farm Bureau.
