Is there an objection?\n\nThe Senator from Mississippi.\n\nMrs. HYDE-SMITH. Madam President, this bill presents a solution in\n\nsearch of a problem. Unfortunately, it appears that the intent of this\n\nlegislation is to treat abortion as healthcare, to prevent pro-life\n\nentities from sponsoring ads designed to help provide women and girls\n\nwith trustworthy support during pregnancy, and to make it harder for\n\nStates to enforce their own laws protecting life and the most\n\nvulnerable.\n\nWhen it comes to ensuring patient privacy and healthcare, I believe\n\nthere are bipartisan solutions to be found that we can all agree on.\n\nOne-sided efforts to promote abortion are not the way for us to find\n\ncommon ground on this issue.\n\nI would also like to point out that this bill has not received a\n\nhearing or markup in the Commerce Committee, which would be a great\n\nopportunity to have.\n\nI would like to turn now to recognize that this Saturday will mark\n\nthe first anniversary of the Supreme Court's landmark decision in Dobbs\n\nv. Jackson Women's Health Organization. I am incredibly proud that this\n\nvictory for the pro-life movement, reversing the moral stain of Roe v.\n\nWade, came out of my State of Mississippi. I am amazed and grateful\n\nthat in God's sovereign plan, a law introduced by my friend,\n\nMississippi State Representative Becky Currie, ultimately achieved what\n\nI and so many have prayed for, for 50 years now, to restore the\n\nsanctity of life.\n\nMy friend, Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch, our State's\n\nsolicitor general, Scott Stewart, and the many others in the AG's\n\noffice worked tirelessly to represent our State's direct challenge to\n\nRoe.\n\nAfter a draft of the Dobbs majority opinion was shamefully leaked,\n\nthe conservative Justices resisted disgraceful intimidation tactics and\n\nthreats to their own lives. They stayed true to their judicial oaths to\n\nuphold and defend the Constitution.\n\nThe Supreme Court recognized correctly in Dobbs that the Constitution\n\ndoes not confer a right to abortion and that Roe was ``egregiously\n\nwrong and on a collision course with the Constitution from the day it\n\nwas decided.''\n\nWhile the Dobbs decision did not end abortion in America, it took a\n\nmonumental step in returning the issue back into the hands of the\n\npeople and their elected representatives. Today, as a result, 14 States\n\nare protecting unborn children through all 9 months of pregnancy.\n\nSeveral others now protect babies at the point where they have a\n\nheartbeat, at 6 weeks, and still others at 12 weeks. One recent study\n\nfound that there were more than 24,000 unborn children saved from\n\nabortion in the first 9 months since Dobbs. That is 24,000 miracles,\n\nbecause that is what a child is--a miracle.\n\nBut it is not just the States that can protect life after Dobbs. We\n\nin Congress also have a responsibility to protect life and stop the\n\nDemocrats' extreme pro-abortion agenda.\n\nIt saddens me deeply that Democrats in Congress continue to advocate\n\nfor appalling legislation that would impose legalized abortion on\n\ndemand up until to the moment of birth across all 50 States. Their\n\nlegislation is even more radical than Roe was and would eliminate even\n\nthe most modest pro-life protections, like parental involvement laws\n\nand bans on sex-selective abortions. Democrats cannot name a single\n\nlimit on abortion they support--not one.\n\nThe American people, however, reject this extreme position. A new\n\nTarrance Group poll this month found that three-fourths of voters\n\noppose allowing abortions through all 9 months of pregnancy and support\n\nat least some limits to abortion.\n\nMore Americans continue to reject abortion when they learn more about\n\nthe child in the womb--when they can hear the child's heartbeat, when\n\nthey can see them suck their thumbs and yawn in an ultrasound, and when\n\nthey learn that they can feel pain.\n\nDespite this, the Biden administration's FDA and Department of\n\nJustice continue to allow the abortion industry to obstruct the will of\n\npro-life States by illegally flooding the mail with do-it-yourself\n\nabortion pills, turning post offices into abortion centers. These\n\nactions not only endanger women's lives and their health, but they\n\nviolate longstanding Federal laws that clearly prohibit the mailing of\n\nabortion drugs.\n\nFinally, we also must advance policies to support pregnant mothers in\n\nchoosing life. In particular, we need to support the work of pregnancy\n\ncenters. More than 2,700 pregnancy centers across the country provide\n\ncritical medical and material support for women and families facing\n\nunplanned pregnancies to choose life rather than abortion.\n\nThis is the promise of the Declaration of Independence: that all men\n\nare created equal and endowed by their Creator with the inalienable\n\nright to life.\n\nThanks to the Supreme Court's decision in Dobbs, 1 year ago this\n\nweek, we can finally begin the hard work to make good on the promise\n\nfor unborn Americans too.\n\nFinally, I object.\n\nThe PRESIDING OFFICER.
