Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), senior member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, today made the following statement calling for a temporary travel ban to the United States from affected West African countries that are fighting the outbreak of Ebola:
“Our nation has the capacity to remain a step ahead of the Ebola outbreak, but to date the Administration has failed to take responsible, necessary, and common sense actions to protect the American public from exposure to the disease and from the fear of its spread. With this in mind, I join my colleagues Sen. Thune and Rep. Shuster and call for a temporary travel ban from affected West African nations, including Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea. This will enhance the safety of and confidence in our travel system, which is vital to the health of our economy. Until we get this situation under control in the United States, we cannot continue to risk the safety of fellow travelers and our healthcare professionals.
“It is also vital that the Centers for Disease Control immediately revise and update its protocols for healthcare professionals to follow while treating patients with Ebola. Recent news reports indicate that Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas followed articulated CDC protocols, but that spread of the disease was not mitigated. Additional protections must immediately be implemented to ensure the safety of our heroic healthcare professionals. The Department of Defense must also incorporate these findings into the guidelines it provides our troops as they operate in West Africa to address the growing crisis there. I look forward to hearing what new steps CDC is taking to improve its response to this growing concern at today’s Congressional hearing.”

###", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at
url
https://www.inhofe.senate.gov/newsroom/press-releases/inhofe-calls-for-travel-ban-in-response-to-ebola-outbreak
