Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), ranking member of the Senate Armed Services Committee (SASC), and Sen. Ben Cardin (D-Md.)\u00a0Monday\u00a0introduced the bipartisan\u00a0Veterans' Advisory Committee on Education Improvement Act of 2013\u00a0(S. 1643). The bill would reauthorize the Veterans' Advisory Committee on Education for two years and extend the committee's composition and reach to include\u00a0veterans from post-9/11 operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.\r\n\"The Veterans' Advisory Committee helps to ensure\u00a0men and women who have worn the uniform\u00a0receive\u00a0the educational benefits they have been promised\u00a0and\u00a0earned,\"\u00a0said Inhofe.\u00a0\"Too often the men and women returning from overseas\u00a0face difficult challenges when\u00a0transitioning into civilian life. This legislation will help\u00a0veterans by\u00a0strengthening the opportunities\u00a0for educational and job-training assistance promised under the GI Bill. I am proud to work with Sen. Cardin in this effort and hope my colleagues will quickly pass this legislation in the Senate.\"\r\n\u201cA true marker of our nation\u2019s worth is our willingness to serve those who have served us,\u201d said Cardin.\u00a0\u201cAs we wind down our commitments in Afghanistan after a decade of war, we need to gear up our commitment to our veterans.\u00a0 I\u2019m proud to join with Senator Inhofe on this legislation that will ensure that the brave men and women who serve our country in the armed services receive the most effective education and training opportunities available. Our veterans deserve every possible tool to help ease their transition to civilian life.\u201d\r\nThe current authorization for the Veterans' Advisory Committee will expire\u00a0on Dec. 31, 2013.\u00a0The\u00a0Veterans' Advisory Committee On Education Improvement Act of 2013\u00a0would reauthorize the Committee through Dec. 31, 2015.\r\nThe Committee\u00a0exists to\u00a0advise the\u00a0Secretary of Veterans Affairs (VA) on current VA education programs and services; to recommend new education benefit programs and services for veterans;\u00a0and to assist in the long-term planning and development of those programs.\u00a0\r\nOn Oct. 28, by a 404-2 vote, the House of Representatives passed its version of the Veterans\u2019 Advisory Committee on Education Act of 2013 (H.R. 2011), which was introduced by Rep.
