Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) todayvoted in favor of H.R. 3762, Restoring Americans Healthcare Freedom Reconciliation Act. This bill would repeal key components of Obamacare and defund Planned Parenthood for one year. This measure passed by a vote of 52-47.\r\nThe passage of a bill to repeal Obamacare is a key victory for this Congress, said Inhofe. Since its disastrous roll-out, I have listened to heartbreaking accounts of how Obamacare has negatively impacted middle-class Oklahoma families. President Obama made many promises about how Obamacare would lower healthcare costs and improve the economy, yet five years later premiums and deductibles have only increased, workers hours have been cut, and the religious liberty of many has been threatened. Because of Obamacare, Oklahomans will see their healthcare premiums rise 35.7 percent next year, which is the largest increase in the nation. Repealing Obamacare is the first step to replacing this disastrous law with a new one that allows real health insurance markets to develop without the heavy hand of Washington getting in the way.\r\nI am also proud that this bill protects innocent lives by defunding Planned Parenthood. Protecting the life of the unborn is among our most important responsibilities. With severe allegations that Planned Parenthood profited from harvested fetal tissue, it is appropriate to defund the organization and redirect the money to community health centers, where women have even greater access to healthcare than what is provided by Planned Parenthood. I applaud my colleagues for taking this step. \r\nBackground:\r\nH.R. 3762, as modified by the Senate, repeals key components of Obamacare, including:\r\n \r\nThe Individual Mandate\r\nThe Employer Mandate\r\nThe Medical Device Tax\r\nThe Cadillac Tax\r\nThe Medicaid Expansion\r\nOver $1 trillion in Obamacare taxes\r\nObamacare Subsidies\r\n \r\nH.R. 3762 also defunds Planned Parenthood for one year and redirects this funding toward the more than 9,000 community health centers, which are better equipped to provide for womens health needs than the only 700 Planned Parenthoods nationwide.\r\nThough facing a sure veto from the president, passing this reconciliation bill to repeal Obamacare and defund Planned Parenthood is important to demonstrate that the Republican controlled Congress is serious about dismantling the legacy of President Obama.\r\nEarlier this year, Blue Cross Blue Shield notified about 40,000 Oklahomans that they will no longer offer their current plan and that policy holders will be moved to other plans in the two other networks in the state.
