Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) today voted in favor of H.R. 5771, the tax extenders package. The Senate passed the legislation by a vote of 76 to 16.\r\n\u201cI am proud to have voted in favor of the 2014 Tax Extenders package, which includes a host of important provisions for Oklahoma\u2019s\u00a0job creators,\u201d Inhofe said.\u00a0\"This legislation will\u00a0help our farmers and small business owners expand their services in Oklahoma\u00a0by allowing them to write off the first $500,000 in annually purchased business\u00a0property.\u00a0Historic Indian lands cover much of Eastern Oklahoma, and the passage of this bill will also allow businesses located on these lands to receive accelerated depreciation for\u00a0property investments\u00a0made in 2014.\u00a0This provision was a contributing factor to Macy\u2019s choice of Owasso, Okla., for the home of its newest distribution center, which will create 1,500 permanent jobs and an additional 1,000 during the holiday shopping season.\"\r\nOn\u00a0Dec 17, 2013, Inhofe introduced S. 1834, legislation\u00a0which would make\u00a0permanent the Indian Lands Accelerated Depreciation tax provision.\u00a0Inhofe has introduced this legislation each Congress since 2005.\u00a0\r\nInhofe continued, \"With my support, the tax extenders bill reinstates the 50-cents excise tax credit for natural gas sold as a transportation fuel, aligning with my priorities to establish natural gas as a mainstream transportation fuel.\u00a0 Moreover, this bill continues bonus depreciation, a provision that allows businesses to\u00a0write off\u00a0an additional 50\u00a0percent\u00a0of the cost of new equipment in the year of purchase, allowing businesses to keep more of their cash to fund further expansions.\u00a0 With the help of tax provisions contained in the 2014 Tax Extenders package, I hope to aid many Oklahomans in their pursuit of economic opportunity, entrepreneurial freedom, and energy independence.\u201d\r\nInhofe has been a longtime recipient of the National Taxpayers Union\u2019s \u201cTaxpayer\u2019s Friend Award\u201d and has also received the \u201cSpirit of Enterprise Award\u201d from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce for his pro-business record.\u00a0\r\n###", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://www.inhofe.senate.gov/newsroom/press-releases/inhofe-praises-senate-passage-of-2014-tax-extenders-package"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.9231000915169716, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
