Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) and Jack Reed (D-R.I.),\r\nchairman and ranking member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, today\r\nreleased the following statement on the Fort Hood Independent Review Committee\r\nreport: After we visited Fort Hood in September, we saw clearly how\r\nthe lack of cohesion among units caused many problems  but we also saw new\r\nleadership making positive changes that will improve the safety and wellbeing\r\nof our soldiers. Today, we received a copy of the report of the Army's Fort\r\nHood Independent Review Committee, which we are now reviewing. This is a\r\nsweeping assessment that delves into the specifics of what went so wrong at\r\nFort Hood and what additional steps the Army can take to remedy the situation. First, we are encouraged that the Army is taking steps to\r\ndemand accountability of its leaders at every level, through leadership changes\r\nand disciplinary action. The fact of the matter is, many of the problems stem\r\nback to egregious mistakes made by the chain of command that created an\r\nunacceptable environment for soldiers at Fort Hood, especially for female\r\nsoldiers. What's worse is leaders weren't held accountable. When that happens,\r\nthe process breaks down. Fixing this problem is the right first step. We're also glad to hear Secretary McCarthy has issued a\r\ndirective clarifying what should happen after a soldier fails to report for\r\nduty. When a soldier goes missing, the Army must take every step to find that\r\nperson. However, this report made it clear that there are other,\r\nserious challenges facing Fort Hood, especially when it comes to implementation\r\nof the SHARP program, as we saw during our visit in September. We're glad that\r\nSecretary McCarthy is establishing the People First Task Force to address the\r\nrecommendations of the report, and we offer our commitment to making sure these\r\nissues are addressed. We must restore our soldiers' faith and trust in their\r\ncommanding officers, their unit and their service.", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://www.inhofe.senate.gov/newsroom/press-releases/inhofe-reed-statement-on-fort-hood-independent-review-committee-report"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.9294929914176464, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
