After the tour, Kaine spoke with School of Nursing students, including participants in the Veterans Bachelor of Science Nursing Program that helps veterans transition their military skills into a nursing career, about the demand for skilled healthcare workers in the Commonwealth and across the nation.\r\n\u201cI wanted to come and learn about the nursing program here at George Washington, which does a great job for the students who are pursuing careers in healthcare,\u201d said Kaine. \u201cTechnical training is important, especially now with the significant and growing need for highly trained health care professionals. GW is at the pinnacle of training for health professions and campuses like this are where the solutions lie.\u201d\r\nThe George Washington School of Nursing\u00a0is\u00a0ranked among the top 50 nursing\u00a0schools in the country.\u00a0Through\u00a0an agreement with Virginia Community Colleges,\u00a0the GW School of Nursing offers guaranteed admission to students\u00a0who\u00a0graduate\u00a0with an Associate\u2019s Degree in Nursing from any accredited community college nursing program in Virginia and who meet\u00a0certain\u00a0academic\u00a0requirements.\u00a0\r\nKaine co-chairs the bipartisan Senate Career and Technical Education (CTE) Caucus, which focuses on improving and strengthening access to CTE to ensure that students of all ages are prepared with the skills they need for the jobs of the 21st century. Since taking office, one of Kaine\u2019s top priorities has been reducing veterans unemployment and helping to ease the transition from active duty to a civilian career. Kaine\u2019s first bill, the\u00a0Troop Talent Act,\u00a0provides active duty servicemembers with the tools they need to receive credentials for the skills they acquire through military training.
