Warner and Tim Kaine announced that the New River/Mount Rogers Workforce Investment Area Consortium in Radford, VA will receive a $6,000,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) to strengthen and expand regional workforce partnerships in Southwest Virginia. The funds are available through DOL\u2019s America\u2019s Promise Job Driven Grant Program.\r\n\u201cToday\u2019s economy requires workers to have knowledge of new and emerging technologies in order to compete for high-skilled jobs,\u201d said Warner. \u201cThis funding will be key in providing new training programs, increasing employment opportunities, and creating new partnerships between job creators in Southwest Virginia. I look forward to seeing how the New River/Mount Rogers Workforce Investment Area Consortium uses these funds to invest in the future of our local economy.\u201d\r\n\u201cThis federal funding will help equip Virginians with important occupational skills that companies are looking for in today\u2019s competitive economy,\u201d said Kaine. \u201cI supported this competitive grant for our Commonwealth and the Department of Labor agreed with its merits. I look forward to seeing these funds used by the New River/Mount Rogers Workforce Investment Area Consortium to create more opportunity in our economy and train workers who want to build a successful future for themselves.\u201d\r\nThe America\u2019s Promise grants will help develop and grow regional partnerships between workforce agencies, education and training providers and employers in a variety of industries.
