Today, U.S. Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has awarded $1,191,500 in funding throughout Virginia to improve community facilities and support first-responders. Todays funding was made available through USDAs Community Facilities Loans and Grants Program.\r\nThis federal funding will help improve essential community facilities and will ensure that Virginias first responders have the tools they need to keep our communities safe, said Warner and Kaine.\r\nThe following entities will receive funding from USDAs loans and grants program:\r\n \r\nGrayson County EDA will receive $50,000 in grants for police vehicles and $710,000 in loans for fire rescue and public safety;\r\nDickenson County IDA will receive $50,000 in grants for court security equipment and $65,000 in loans for improvements to public buildings;\r\nTown of Honaker will receive $50,000 in grants for police vehicles;\r\nDante Rescue Squad, Inc. will receive $50,000 for an ambulance and equipment;\r\nCity of Eagle River will receive $47,000 in grants to purchase a police car and equipment;\r\nDuffield Volunteer Fire & Rescue Squads, Inc. for $45,000 for an ambulance;\r\nSt. Marys Health Wagon, Inc. will receive $30,000 in grants for SUVs & trailers used for mobile health services and $10,000 in loans for health care;\r\nTown of Clintwood Police Department will receive $37,500 in grants for police vehicles;\r\nTown of Clintwood Fire Department will receive $21,700 in grants for fire department equipment;\r\nTown of Cape Charles will receive $25,300 in loans for fire, rescue and public safety.\r\n \r\nThe Community Facilities Loans and Grants Program provides affordable funding to develop essential community facilities in rural areas. An essential community facility is defined as a facility that provides an essential service to the local community for the orderly development of the community in a primarily rural area and does not include private, commercial or business undertakings.
