{"database": "press", "table": "releases", "rows": [["https://www.king.senate.gov/newsroom/press-releases/collins-king-announce-more-than-36-million-in-grants-for-community-development", "Collins, King Announce More Than $3.6 Million in Grants for Community Development", "2016-10-24", "2016", "2016-10", "Independent", "House", "ME", "Angus King", "K000383", "www.king.senate.gov", null, null, "legacy", "Collins, King Announce More Than $3.6 Million in Grants for Community Development\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\tMonday, October 24, 2016\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\n\t\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\tWASHINGTON, D.C. \u2014 U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King today announced that five Maine organizations have been awarded a total of $3,649,544 through the Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) Program and the Native American CDFI Assistance (NACA) Program.\u00a0\r\nCDFIs are private financial institutions that provide affordable loans to low-income individuals and communities to help finance community businesses\u2014including small businesses, microenterprises, nonprofit organizations, commercial real estate, and affordable housing. The grants will enable local financial and development institutions, as well as institutions devoted to supporting Maine\u2019s Native American population, increase their lending and investment activity in economically distressed communities. \u201cCDFIs play an important role in spurring economic development in communities across Maine,\u201d said Senators Collins and King in a joint statement. \u201cWith this funding, these five CDFIs will be able to build on their support for local entrepreneurs, creating greater economic opportunities for residents of low-income areas.\u201dThe five Maine CDFIs receiving funding through these grants are below:CDFI\r\n \r\nCoastal Enterprises, Inc. in Brunswick will receive $1,750,000.\r\nGenesis Fund, Inc.\u00a0in Brunswick will receive $475,000.\r\nMaineStream Finance in Bangor will receive $500,000.\r\nNorthern Maine Development Commission in Caribou will receive $124,544.\r\n \r\n   Native American CDFI\r\n \r\nFour Directions Development Corporation in Orono will receive $800,000.\r\n \r\n   The CDFI Fund is part of the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
