Today, the Office of U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine) released the\r\nDecember edition of Senator King's monthly Inside Maine podcast. This\r\nmonth's show highlights the impact of climate change on Maine, as well as\r\nemerging bipartisan solutions to address this existential crisis. In the first\r\nsegment, Senator King is joined by Senators Mitt Romney (R-Utah), and Chris\r\nCoons (D-Del.), to discuss bipartisan steps Congress can take to mitigate and\r\nadapt to the effects of climate change. In the second\r\nsegment, Darron Collins, President of the College of the Atlantic (COA),\r\njoins Senator King to share his thoughts on the specific challenges facing\r\nMaine and the work COA is pursuing to reduce their impact on our planet. Climate change\r\nis the most serious global crisis in my lifetime, and it's crucial that we act\r\nquickly to mitigate the toll that it's already taking on our environment; I\r\nwant my grandchildren to know that I took the necessary action for them and\r\ntheir future families, said Senator King. The facts are clear, and\r\npaint a grave picture for future generations, with the Gulf of Maine warming\r\n99% faster than the world's oceans. With bipartisan\r\ninitiatives put forth by myself and my colleagues in the Senate and the\r\nexpertise of institutions like the College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor we\r\ncan and should take steps towards lasting change. A forceful\r\nadvocate for clean energy solutions wherever they can be found, Senator King is\r\nthe lead sponsor on a range of bills that encourage energy efficiency and\r\nresearch on clean energy technologies, such as the Joint\r\nLong-Term Storage Act, which seeks to speed up deployment of\r\nlong-duration energy storage technologies through strategic collaboration\r\nbetween federal agencies. He is a cosponsor of the Renewable Electricity Standard Act of 2019\r\nwhich would put the U.S. on a trajectory to decarbonize the power sector by\r\n2050. In July, Senator King took to the Senate floor to urge bold and meaningful action to mitigate the threat of\r\nclimate change. He also\r\ncontinues to\r\nspeak out to encourage the administration to rejoin the Paris Climate Accord\r\nand reaffirm U.S. leadership in the fight against global climate change. The Inside\r\nMaine Podcast with Senator Angus King is a 30-minute program that aims to help\r\nkeep Maine people informed about issues of the day, how they affect life in the\r\nstate, and how they factor into Senator King's work as one of two independents\r\nin the U.S. Senate. Senator King's podcast builds on his existing radio show\r\nthat airs on Newsradio WGAN in Portland, Maine between 10 and 11 a.m. on almost\r\nevery last Saturday of the month.
