The company is owned by Proctor\r\n&amp; Gamble and recently celebrated 50 years in business; with approximately\r\n400 employees, Tambrands is Auburn's largest private employer and produces\r\nbetween 8 and 9 million Tampax tampons per day, which are shipped all over the\r\nworld. Tambrands has\r\nbeen investing in Maine's workforce and our state's economy for the past fifty\r\nyears  it is not only an economic success story, but also an important part of\r\nthe Auburn community, said Senator King. The success of Tambrands'\r\nAuburn facility is not only a testament to great leadership, but also to the generations\r\nof the diligent and innovative Maine folks who have worked there. When people\r\nfrom away hear the phrase Made in Maine', they expect high-quality products \r\nthat's thanks to the hard work of Maine's manufacturing workers like those at\r\nTambrands.In recent\r\nmonths, Senator King has visited several small businesses and manufacturing\r\nfacilities throughout Maine to celebrate innovation, ingenuity and discuss a\r\nfew challenges and obstacles to success. In August, Senator King\r\ncelebrated Maine innovation and entrepreneurship at the unveiling of the\r\nnewest renovations to the UpStart Center for Entrepreneurship in Orono. The\r\nCenter, is Maine's longest running incubator for startup businesses and\r\nprovides resources, technological support and coaching for future\r\nentrepreneurs. Also in August, he\r\nmet with management at Origin Maine, a martial arts and athletics-wear\r\nmanufacturer in Farmington, as well as leaders of Nine Dragons Paper\r\nLLCat the company's Rumford mill, which was recently purchased from\r\nCatalyst Paper.He\r\nalso visited with a number of Lewiston businesses, including Elmet\r\nTechnology and Central Distributors and ate lunch with a group of entrepreneurs\r\nwho are members of the Lewiston Auburn Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce. In\r\nJuly, Senator King\r\nfocused on agricultural innovation and visited Buck Farms in Mapleton and\r\nMichaud Farms in Fort Fairfield to discuss opportunities to diversify\r\nMaine's crop selection and clean energy production.
