Today, U.S. Senators Susan\r\nCollins (R-Maine), the Chairman of the Senate Transportation Appropriations\r\nSubcommittee, and Angus King (I-Maine) applauded the passage of legislation to\r\nreauthorize the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for five years. The\r\nlegislation, which passed with strong bipartisan support, authorizes funding\r\nfor all FAA programs, including FAA operations, research and development,\r\naviation programs, extension of expiring authorities, airport planning and\r\nimprovement, and noise compatibility and programs.   The legislation also includes an\r\namendment introduced by Senators Collins and King requiring any future\r\nevaluations of airport master plans to take into account the role of airports\r\nto support evacuations related to medical emergencies or natural disasters. The\r\namendment will be a boost for Maine's rural communities, which regularly use\r\ntheir airports to transport patients to larger medical centers in emergencies.   Our rural citizens should be able\r\nto access the medical care they need, and airports can help facilitate that for\r\npatients who require care in a larger or more specialized center, said\r\nSenators Collins and King. This FAA reauthorization, which passed with\r\noverwhelming bipartisan support, will help ensure that future airport\r\ninvestments will be made with the health of rural Mainers in mind.  The FAA is primarily responsible\r\nfor the advancement, safety, and regulation of civil aviation, as well as for\r\noverseeing the operation of the air traffic control system and the development\r\nof commercial space travel. The legislation passed today will now go to the\r\nPresident's desk for his signature.", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://www.king.senate.gov/newsroom/press-releases/senate-passes-faa-reauthorization-with-collins-king-amendment-to-improve-rural-healthcare"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 2.6129987090826035, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
