The\r\ndrug epidemic has ravaged our state, impacting every West Virginian and taking\r\nthousands from us too soon, and the COVID-19 pandemic has only made this crisis\r\nworse. This funding supports research and programs that help West Virginians\r\nwith substance use disorder across the state. As a member of the Senate\r\nAppropriations Committee I will continue to fight for funding that helps West\r\nVirginia manage the drug epidemic through research and treatment. Together we\r\ncan manage both crises impacting the Mountain State, said Senator Manchin. \r\nThe opioid crisis has affected lives and communities across the country, but\r\nsome statesincluding West Virginiahave been hit harder than others, Senator\r\nCapito said. Unfortunately, the current pandemic has brought new\r\nchallenges for those in recovery and living with addiction, resulting in rising\r\noverdoses and treatment needs, which makes these funds even more critical. I'm\r\nthankful that HHS recognized the need for further support of these programs in\r\nWest Virginia and look forward to the impact they will make on the lives of our\r\nresidents.
