A portion of these funds are supported through the CARES Act. Our\r\nairports are vital to West Virginia's economy, providing access for tourism and\r\nindustries while spurring economic development. As a pilot myself, I understand\r\nthe importance of airport and runway upkeep. This funding will help the\r\nMarshall County Airport and the Tri-State Airport improve drainage to combat\r\nerosion and increase runway safety for those flying to and from the Mountain\r\nState. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue to\r\nfight for funding that helps our airports stay safe, said Senator Manchin. Making\r\nsure our airports are updated to the most recent safety standards is a vital\r\nstep to growing our economy and is important for the convenience of travelers.\r\nOver the past several years, investments in our airports have helped support many\r\nimprovement projects, which have been made possible from support on the federal\r\nlevel. As a member of the Appropriations Committee, I made sure the CARES\r\nAct included sufficient funding to provide the federal match to enable\r\nthese improvement projects. This will ensure that West Virginia's airports can\r\ncontinue to operate safely and spur economic growth, said Senator Capito.
