The projects focus on\r\nprosthetic joint infection treatment and natural gas byproducts. West\r\nVirginia University continues to be a leader in many research fields, from\r\nmedicine to the environment. One of the projects awarded today aims to develop\r\na drug to treat prosthetic joint infections, helping many West Virginians\r\nsuccessfully adjust to their new prosthetics without the complication of\r\ninfection, said Senator Manchin. The other project plans to explore\r\ninnovative uses of natural gas to grow manufacturing opportunities in West\r\nVirginia for useful and high value products like carbon-free hydrogen. This\r\nresearch will greatly benefit our economy and our workforce as we look to\r\nmaximize the value of natural gas production. I look forward to seeing the\r\nbenefits of this research and will continue to prioritize research conducted\r\nhere in the Mountain State. The\r\nNational Science Foundation and West Virginia University Research Corporation\r\ncontinue to work together to move West Virginia forward, said Senator\r\nCapito. Not only do these projects work to provide quality research\r\nopportunities to students, but also they help improve the lives of people\r\nacross our state.
