Today\r\nthe Senate took unprecedented action never before seen in the 240 year history\r\nof our country, but it didn't have to be this way. Mitch McConnell and Senate\r\nRepublicans chose a dangerous, partisan path to push through the confirmation\r\nof Judge Amy Coney Barrett eight days before this year's November 3rd election\r\nfurther politicizing the highest court in the land. The facts are clearnever\r\nbefore has the president nominated and the Senate confirmed a Supreme Court\r\njustice between July and Election Day in a presidential election year. This\r\ndegradation of Senate norms and procedures didn't start with the confirmation\r\nof Judge Amy Coney Barrett and it won't end here. The U.S. Senate is supposed\r\nto be the greatest deliberative body in the world and perhaps we used to be.\r\nBut each time a Senate majority  regardless of party  changes the rules, we\r\nreduce the incentive to work together across party lines. Instead, the partisan\r\ngoverning of the last ten years and the rushed nomination of Judge Barrett only\r\nfans the flames of division at a time when Americans are deeply divided. Judge\r\nBarrett's nomination and the confirmation process are far from business as\r\nusual. I cannot support the nomination of Judge Barrett to the Supreme Court of\r\nthe United States on the eve of a Presidential election. It is simple - this\r\nnomination should have waited until after the election.\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\n\t  \n\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t \n\t\t\n\t\t\tPrint\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\tEmail\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\tTweet\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\n\t \n\t\n\t\n\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\n    \n\t\n\t\n    \n    \n    \n    \t\n    \t\n\t    \t  \n\t\t    \n\t\t    \tNext Article\n\t\t    \n\t\t    \n\t\t    \tPrevious Article", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://www.manchin.senate.gov/newsroom/press-releases/manchin-votes-against-supreme-court-nominee-process"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.855875900015235, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
