U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Mark Kirk (R-IL) this week introduced the Government Transformation Act, a bill which creates an independent commission to target government waste and inefficiency. The bill would also provide actionable recommendations to Congress in order to enhance government effectiveness, efficiency and credibility in government programs.\r\nThe first step to getting our financial house in order is reducing government waste and inefficiency, Senator Manchin said. This legislation will create an independent analysis focused on finding inefficiencies in our government and reducing the national debt. I am proud to work across the aisle with my colleague Senator Kirk to save American taxpayers millions of dollars.\r\nBy eliminating outdated and underutilized programs like agencies and offices that print documents already found online, we can save taxpayers millions, Senator Kirk said. This bipartisan bill is a step towards reducing government waste and inefficiency.\r\nThis legislation would:\r\n \r\nCreate an independent, seven member, government transformation commission tasked with finding taxpayer savings and government waste.\r\n \r\n \r\nThe independent analysis will include program evaluation, effectiveness, efficiency, consolidation, reform and best practices.
