Markey (D-Mass.) released the following statement on Trump\u2019s Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Iran.\n\n\u201cThe United States had a nuclear deal with Iran in 2015, and it was working. President Trump abandoned it in 2018 for no good reason. Only then did Iran start to build up its stocks of highly enriched uranium, which Trump used as an excuse to take the nation to war. That war was a disaster, built on lies and costing lives and treasure and leading Iran to close the Strait of Hormuz. Oil and gas prices skyrocketed.\n\n\u201cNow, Trump has replaced the 2018 Iran deal with a Memorandum of Understanding that caves to Iran\u2019s demands. Trump\u2019s MoU is not a deal, it\u2019s a $300 billion bribe. Trump has agreed to a mafia protection racket. \u2018Nice oil tanker there, would be a shame if anything happened to it!\u2019\n\n\u201cTrump\u2019s MoU is a payoff for Iran with no new limits on its nuclear program. Trump is not a deal maker\u2014he is a deal breaker. This war was completely Trump\u2019s fault and was completely avoidable.\n\n\u201cMore than anything, Trump\u2019s embarrassing MoU shows what a huge blunder the war was. We are worse off than when Trump started the war, the worst foreign policy disaster in decades.\n\n\u201cThe best we can do now is end this war as soon as possible by approving Trump\u2019s pitiful MoU.
