Goldwater Post Office\u201d and the United States Postal Service located at 161 Live Oak Street in Miami, Arizona, as the \u201cStaff Sergeant Manuel V. Mendoza Post Office Building\u201d:\r\n\u201cWe applaud the Senate\u2019s passage last night of two Post Office designation bills that will recognize Senator Barry Goldwater and Staff Sergeant Manuel Mendoza for their leadership, public service, and selfless duty to our state and nation.\r\n\u201cBarry Goldwater represented Arizona in the United States Senate from 1969 until 1987, where he gained respect for his firm conviction of conservative principles. While Barry grew up in Phoenix, he considered Prescott his second home. He was deeply influenced by the public service of his uncle Morris, who served as Mayor of Prescott for two decades, and made it tradition to kick off his political campaigns on the north steps of the Yavapai County Courthouse. No one loved Arizona more than Barry, and he always put country and principles before his own self-interest. Through this designation, the Territorial Capital will always remember Barry\u2019s legacy to his second home, and honor his contributions to our state and nation.\r\n\u201cStaff Sergeant Manuel Mendoza likewise served our nation by fighting in both World War II and the Korean War. Staff Sgt. Mendoza was born in Miami and was drafted in the U.S. Army at the age of 20 in 1942. Nicknamed \u2018the Arizona kid\u2019 for his heroic actions in combat, Staff Sgt. Mendoza received the Medal of Honor in March 2014 for repelling a German assault on Italy\u2019s Mount Battaglia in 1944. More than 200 German soldiers launched a counterattack against Staff Sgt. Mendoza\u2019s platoon, but with bravery and determination, and despite being wounded in battle, Staff Sgt. Mendoza single-handedly killed 30 enemy troops and successfully defended the Allied position. Our state has no finer hero than Staff Sgt.
