{"database": "press", "table": "releases", "rows": [["https://www.mccain.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/press-releases?ContentRecord_id=ccd5642e-829f-4b91-81ef-ff69a81ca47c", "STATEMENT BY SENATOR McCAIN ON THE GOVERNOR OF OKINAWA\u2019S DECISION TO SIGN LANDFILL PERMIT FOR FUTENMA REPLACEMENT FACILITY", "2013-12-27", "2013", "2013-12", "Republican", "House", "AZ", "John McCain", "M000303", "www.mccain.senate.gov", null, null, "legacy", "Washington, D.C. \u2013 U.S. Senator John McCain (R-AZ) today released the following statement on the Governor of Okinawa's decision to sign the landfill permit for construction of the Futenma replacement facility at Camp Schwab-Henoko Bay in Okinawa:\r\n\u201cGovernor Nakaima's decision to sign the landfill permit is a major achievement for  Okinawa, for Japan, and for the U.S.-Japan alliance \u2013 an achievement for which  Prime Minister Abe and his Administration also deserve much credit.\r\n\u201cAfter 17 years of hard work and setbacks, today's action paves the way for the  construction of the Futenma Replacement Facility at Camp Schwab, the  redeployment of U.S. Marines from Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, and the  broader realignment of U.S. forces on Okinawa and in the Asia-Pacific region.\r\n\u201cIt is all the more important now for the Congress and the U.S. Department of  Defense to continue working together to ensure that the necessary military  plans and force requirements are in place to carry out and sustain the realignment  of U.S. forces in the Asia-Pacific region. It is also essential, in this time  of constrained resources and increased scrutiny on spending, that the cost  estimates for this realignment be responsible and strictly adhered to over the  years ahead. I was pleased to continue working with my colleagues in the  Congress this year to make additional progress toward these goals in the Fiscal  Year 2014 National Defense Authorization Act.\r\n\u201cThe U.S.-Japan alliance is the foundation of the enduring U.S. commitment to the  peace, prosperity, and freedom of the Asia-Pacific region. The United States  will continue to work with Japan and our other friends and allies to maintain a  favorable balance of power in this vital region.
