It isn\u2019t just my prosecutorial experience informing my opposition to the bill; after testimony from hundreds of witnesses, acongressionally created expert panel\u00a0\u2014 majority civilian, majority women \u2014 rejected the bill because it would do nothing to reduce assaults or retaliation against survivors.\r\nYou focus on this bill but don\u2019t mention 36 major reforms that recently became law to protect victims and hold military commanders accountable, or a new slate of reforms in this year\u2019s defense bill. You also don\u2019t mention that rape is a vastly underreported crime anywhere it occurs, not just in the military.\r\nYour editorial dismisses new data showing significant progress, with fewer incidents and rising confidence from victims, with one in four victims now reporting, up from one in 10.\r\nThere is an honest policy disagreement regarding which changes will better support survivors and increase accountability.
