Al Franken (D-Minn.) raised with Uber in the wake of reports that Uber executive Josh Mohrer tracked a reporter's Uber rides without her permission.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nSenator blasts Uber for weak response to spy scandal\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nAnother press report that the senators' letter references includes a Uber job applicant having access to the company's database of customer records.\r\n\"Such allegations, if true, appear contrary to Uber's claim that it has a 'strict policy prohibiting all employees at every level from accessing a rider of driver's data' with exceptions for a 'limited set of legitimate business purposes,' and the allegations raise questions about Uber's enforcement of its own policies,\"\u00a0their letter says.\r\nAlso noted by the senators: media reports that Uber's \"God View,\" which tracks consumers' real-time locations, is easily accessible to employees and, regarding Lyft, that a company spokeswoman had access to customers' travel logs.\r\nBoth companies were asked to have a top official brief the Commerce Committee on data security practices and privacy. McCaskill chairs the consumer protection subcommittee, while Nelson chairs the science and space subcommittee.\r\nThe senators also asked for information on the companies' public and internal policies pertaining to their practices on privacy policies, third party data sharing, consumer data retention and notification and data breach protections.\r\nUber did not immediately return a request for comment on the senators' requests. But Lyft provided the following statement: \"We share Senator McCaskill and Senator Nelson's commitment to consumer privacy and look forward to responding to their letter to discuss this important issue.
