{"database": "press", "table": "releases", "rows": [["https://www.mccaskill.senate.gov/media-center/latest-headlines/st-louis-area-port-authorities-get-809000-in-federal-funds", "St. Louis-area port authorities get $809,000 in federal funds", "2016-11-01", "2016", "2016-11", "Democrat", "House", "MO", "Claire McCaskill", "M001170", "www.mccaskill.senate.gov", null, null, "legacy", "St. Louis-area port authorities get $809,000 in federal funds \r\n                \r\n            \r\n            \r\n                Tuesday, November 1, 2016\r\n            \r\n            \n\t\n\r\n            \r\n            \r\n                  \r\n                    By:\u00a0\r\n                    Diana Barr\r\n                \r\n            \r\n            \r\n                \r\n                \r\n                \r\n            The Port Authority of the city of St. Louis and America\u2019s Central Port in Granite City each received federal grants through the Maritime Administration\u2019s Marine Highway Program.\r\nThe funds were part of $4.85 million in grants for six Marine Highway projects along the waterways of 17 states and the District of Columbia announced last week by U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx.\r\nThe goal of the Marine Highway Program is to expand use the nation\u2019s navigable waterways to relieve landside congestion, reduce air emissions and increase the surface transportation system\u2019s efficiency.\r\nThe St. Louis Port Authority, along with partners Inland Rivers Ports &amp; Terminals Inc. (IRPT), Mississippi Rivers Cities &amp; Towns Initiative (MRCTI), and Upper Mississippi River Basin Association (UMRBA), was awarded $96,000 to develop containerized shipping along the Mississippi River, between New Orleans, Minneapolis and Chicago.\r\n\u201cMissouri\u2019s economy thrives when our producers are able to get their products to market around the country and the world, and we\u2019ve got to give them the tools to get there,\u201d U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-St. Louis, and a member of the Senate Commerce Committee, said in a statement Tuesday. \u201cThat\u2019s why this grant is great news for our state \u2014 enabling us to unlock one of our most valuable highways of commerce, our rivers, and helping create jobs and boosting our economy by transporting goods more efficiently.\u201d\r\nThe Illinois Container on Barge Shuttle program, was awarded $713,000. The program, sponsored by America\u2019s Central Port in Metro East, is an 18-month demonstration project to provide shuttle service for agricultural customers moving containerized exports between southern and northern Illinois to access the Union Pacific and BNSF rail ramps. The service will operate on the Illinois and Mississippi rivers between Channahon and Granite City.
