Career training programs that cannot fulfill their promises to offer students a meaningful path to economic advancement must be held accountable and should not be rewarded with continued taxpayer support.\r\nMcCaskill is pushing for the Department of Education to abandon its proposal rescinding the gainful employment rule, as the provision is an essential protection that holds predatory career training programs accountable when they fail to give students upfront information about their debt and employment prospects after graduation. Secretary DeVos has delayed implementing the gainful employment rule and its critical protections three consecutive times, and her effort to completely dismantle the rule will leave Missouri students vulnerable to predatory career training programs.\r\nMcCaskill has fought during her time in the Senate to tackle issues of college affordability and accessibility, particularly student loan debt and holding for-profit colleges and universities accountable when they defraud or cheat students. Earlier this month, McCaskill joined an effort calling on the Department of Education to abandon its proposed rule change that would deny students who were cheated or defrauded by predatory for-profit colleges the relief they are entitled to under the law.\r\nMcCaskill has also fought to protect veterans from predatory, for-profit universities.
