The Court produced the code internally, and adopted it unanimously.\n\n\u201cIn other words, as I expected, a coequal branch of government conducted its business independently. Which sounds an awful lot like the separation of powers envisioned in the Constitution.\n\n\u201cCertainly, that hasn\u2019t deterred Senate Democrats from their obsessive effort to bend the Court to their will. In fact, their months-long smear campaign \u2013 disguised as an effort to make the senior-most jurists in the country, duly confirmed by the Senate, more \u2018accountable\u2019 to the American people \u2013 unfortunately continues apace.\n\n\u201cWe know what our colleagues really mean by \u2018accountability\u2019. It\u2019s code for \u2018intimidation\u2019.\n\n\u201cI\u2019m sure that this sort of \u2018accountability\u2019 is exactly what the Justices and their families felt as the Biden Administration declined to enforce federal law and protect them in their homes from angry mobs.\n\n\u201cOr when Senate Democrats threatened to slash the Court\u2019s security budget in the face of death threats.\n\n\u201cOr on any number of occasions when our colleagues have issued ominous, veiled warnings about \u2018restructuring\u2019 or outright threats that Justices would \u2018pay the price\u2019.\n\n\u201cWell, this week, Democrats on the Judiciary Committee are at it again.\n\n\u201cOur colleagues planned last week to threaten legal action against private citizens who declined to indulge their sham trial of the Justices. The only problem? Republicans on the Committee submitted too many commonsense amendments, and the Majority worried some of them might pass with bipartisan support!\n\n\u201cBut regardless of how Senate Democrats choose to spend their time, I\u2019ll repeat what I\u2019ve said before: I have the utmost confidence in each of the Justices of our nation\u2019s highest court, and they should continue to pay this intimidation campaign no mind.\u201d\n\n###", 1, "2026-03-30T01:40:41Z", "2026-04-06T18:49:58Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://www.mcconnell.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/pressreleases?ID=708D11A0-C398-44FA-8704-1F3BCEB3C10D"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.8897869847714901, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
