U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell made the following remarks on the Senate floor regarding bi-partisan education reform:\r\nLast November, the American people elected a new Congress to get Washington working again.\r\nNearly every day seems to bring more signs that we are.\r\nOver the weekend, President Obama signed the FAST Act, a multi-year highway bill, into law.\r\nIt represents a significant departure from years of short-term extensions and congressional inaction.\r\nIn fact, the FAST Act is the longest-term highway bill to pass Congress in almost two decades, proving 5 full years of highway funding.\r\nHeres what Kentuckians for Better Transportation  a top transportation advocacy organization in the commonwealth  had to say about it:\r\nAfter many, many years of short term continuing resolutions we finally have a long term authorization that will give our states the opportunity to plan for and implement major road projects, they said, and now we can plan for the future.\r\nThats because, in a new and more open Senate, Senator Inhofe, a Republican, and Senator Boxer, a Democrat, were able to work together for its passage.\r\nSenator Boxer herself called it a major accomplishment.\r\nHeres another major accomplishment.\r\nThe Every Student Succeeds Act.\r\nIts a bipartisan, reformist replacement for No Child Left Behind.\r\nPundits said Washington could never agree on how to replace No Child Left Behind. The issue went unresolved for many years.\r\nBut in a new and more open Senate, Senator Alexander, a Republican, and Senator Murray, a Democrat, worked hard and found success in the bill before us.\r\nThe House already passed it, 359-64.\r\nThe Senate previously passed a very similar version of the bill too, 81-17.\r\nTomorrow, we should work together to pass it for a second and final timeand send it to the President for his signature.\r\nIt will be the latest important achievement for the American people, from a new Congress thats back to work and back on their side.", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://www.mcconnell.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?p=PressReleases&ContentRecord_id=c811dc57-9bce-47f6-ad32-bc1ab8fc3655"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.4749299734830856, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
