U.S. Senators Bob Menendez and Cory\r\nBooker and Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (N.J.-06) today applauded the Major\r\nDisaster Declaration issued to New Jersey today for the damage inflicted on New\r\nJersey by Tropical Storm Isaias. In October, the lawmakers send a letter to the\r\nPresident supporting Governor Phil Murphy's request for a Major Disaster\r\nDeclaration. The declaration\r\nmakes the state eligible for more federal resources as areas recover from\r\ndamage caused by the storm that battered New Jersey in August. The declaration\r\ncovers 11 counties: Atlantic, Bergen, Burlington, Cape May, Cumberland, Essex,\r\nGloucester, Monmouth, Morris, Salem, and Sussex. This is much\r\nneeded federal relief for New Jersey and the 11 counties that were hit hard by\r\nTropical Storm Isaias. From the torrential downpours to the high winds,\r\ncommunities, already strapped for resources were burdened with the high cost of\r\ndebris removal and widespread power outages, said Sen. Menendez. This will reimburse the communities that faced\r\nstorm damage and allow them to prepare for future storms.Tropical Storm\r\nIsaias caused significant damage to homes and businesses and left thousands of\r\nmy constituents struggling with prolonged power outages. The coronavirus\r\npandemic has strained state and local resources, making the federal funding\r\nthat this declaration provides even more important, said Rep. Pascrell. I'm thankful for Governor Murphy and the\r\nentire New Jersey Congressional delegation for their efforts to get New Jersey\r\nthe federal support it needs. In the letter,\r\nthe lawmakers noted that the statewide damage assessment was more than double\r\nthe threshold set for fiscal year 2020, straining already strapped state and\r\nlocal resources, and that the majority of the costs relate to debris\r\nremoval.   ###", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://www.menendez.senate.gov/newsroom/press/menendez-booker-pallone-applaud-major-disaster-declaration-for-11-counties-in-nj-hit-hard-by-tropical-storm-isaias"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.7984789554029703, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
