This cannot be a country built on servitude, American workers must come first.\u201d\n\nThe SAFE HIRE Act requires:\n\nPublicly traded company executives and human resources officers (\u201ccertifying officers\u201d) to certify the accuracy of their employment practices and employee legal work status in their annual SEC reports, including an evaluation of internal compliance controls.\n\nExecutives are also required to disclose to both the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Department of Justice (DOJ) any \u201csignificant deficiencies\u201d in their internal processes that could impact their ability to comply with federal employment eligibility requirements and any known violations of the federal legal work regulations.\n\nCompanies to file a list of all disclosed deficiencies and violations with DHS and DOJ in their public annual report filed with the SEC, including whether or not they\u2019ve hired illegal workers\n\nExecutives who lie about these reports can be fined up to $1,000,000, imprisoned for up to 10 years, or both\n\nPenalties are even more severe (up to $5,000,000 fine and 20 years imprisonment) for executives whose companies hire illegal aliens.\n\nBackground: Following along the path of the overwhelmingly bipartisan Sarbanes-OxleyAct of 2002, which held corporate executives personally responsible if they cooked their books, Moreno\u2019s legislation would for the first time hold executives accountable for disregarding America\u2019s immigration laws.\n\nRead the text of the bill HERE.", 1, "2026-03-30T01:40:41Z", "2026-04-06T18:48:13Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://www.moreno.senate.gov/press-releases/moreno-bill-would-implement-penalties-for-executives-that-hire-illegals"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.9969971142709255, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
