{"database": "press", "table": "releases", "rows": [["https://www.murkowski.senate.gov/press/release/schatz-murkowski-lead-oversight-hearing-on-fentanyl-in-native-communities", "Schatz, Murkowski Lead Oversight Hearing On Fentanyl in native communities", "2023-11-09", "2023", "2023-11", "Republican", "Senate", "AK", "Lisa Murkowski", "M001153", "www.murkowski.senate.gov", "murkowski", "https://www.murkowski.senate.gov/press/press-releases?PageNum_rs=17", "scraper", "Hearing Underscored Native Perspectives On Addressing Fentanyl Crisis\n\n\u2013 Today, U.S. Senator Brian Schatz (D-Hawai\u2018i), chairman of the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs, and U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), vice chairman of the Committee, led an oversight hearing titled, \u201cFentanyl in Native Communities: Native Perspectives on Addressing the Growing Crisis.\u201d\n\n\u201cFentanyl \u2013 a potent synthetic opioid \u2013 is contributing to a rapid rise in opioid-related deaths across the country, and Native communities are getting hit extra hard,\u201d said Chairman Schatz. \u201cWe have to listen to Native leaders, organizations, and health care professionals and support Native-led solutions to fight fentanyl in their homelands and surrounding communities.\u201d\n\n\u201cToday, the Indian Affairs Committee held the first in a series of hearings on the fentanyl crisis,\u201d said Vice Chairman Murkowski. \u201cAmerican Indian and Alaska Native populations had the highest drug overdose rates in both 2020 and 2021. Expert witnesses from Native communities shared how tribal leaders and Native health experts are responding to the crisis.
