Peters", "P000595", "www.peters.senate.gov", "garypeters", "https://www.peters.senate.gov/newsroom/press-releases", "scraper", "WASHINGTON, D.C. \u2013 U.S. Senators Gary Peters (D-MI) and Rand Paul (R-KY), Chairman and Ranking Member of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and Ron Johnson (R-WI), Chairman and Ranking Member of the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, are pressing the U.S. Secret Service (USSS), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Office of Intelligence and Analysis, and key local law enforcement officials to provide information related to the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. The bipartisan document request follows a bipartisan announcement from Peters and Paul to investigate the security failures that led to the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania on July 13th.\n\n\u201cWe write to request documents and information related to the assassination attempt on former President Trump and the loss of life of one attendee and injuries to two others during a campaign rally in Butler, PA, on July 13, 2024,\u201d wrote the senators. \u201cAs Senator Peters and Senator Paul indicated in their letter to DHS Secretary Mayorkas and FBI Director Wray on July 15, 2024, the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee has initiated a bipartisan investigation into how this attack was able to occur, what security, personnel, or other failures contributed to the attempt, and steps that must be taken to ensure any mistakes are avoided in the future.\u201d\n\nThe senators are requesting information from three federal agencies and five state and local law enforcement agencies related to the security preparations for and response to the attack during the campaign rally in Pennsylvania and the failures that led to an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.
