Peters", "P000595", "www.peters.senate.gov", "garypeters", "https://www.peters.senate.gov/newsroom/press-releases", "scraper", "TRAVERSE CITY, MI \u2013 The Office of U.S. Senator Gary Peters (MI) will host a Veterans History Project event Wednesday, November 9th from 10:00AM-4:00PM at the Grand Traverse County Department of Veterans Affairs. The Veterans History Project (VHP) of the Library of Congress American Folklife Center collects, preserves and makes accessible to the American public a national archive featuring the firsthand interviews and narratives of United States military veterans from World War I through the present \u2013 along with the stories of Gold Star families.\n\nThrough the work of Veterans History Project volunteers, the recorded interviews, memoirs and other documents from Michigan veterans will be submitted to the Library of Congress. These stories allow future generations to hear directly from veterans to learn about their stories of service and sacrifice and better understand the realities of war.\n\nVeterans interested in participating in the November 9th Veterans History Project event with Senator Peters\u2019 office should register by clicking here.\n\n\u201cOur nation\u2019s veterans have protected our freedoms, families, and values as Americans. We owe it to them to ensure their stories and experiences live on, which is why I encourage local veterans and Gold Star families to participate in the Veterans History Project by sharing their stories,\u201d said Senator Peters.\n\nPeters, who currently serves on the Senate Armed Services Committee, volunteered for the U.S. Navy Reserve at age 34, where he earned a Seabee Combat Warfare Specialist designation and rose to the rank of Lieutenant Commander. After the September 11th terrorist attacks on our country, he volunteered again for drilling status and served overseas as part of his Reserve duty.
