Following a discussion with Housing leadership, Montgomery County ADAMHS leadership, and residents, Portman toured Promise to Hope. In partnership with the Miami Valley Hospital and Montgomery County ADAMHS, Promise to Hope has received more than $75,000 in federal grant funding from the 21st Century CURES Act and subsequent State Opioid Response Grant (SOR) program, legislation Portman championed.\nI had a great visit today seeing how 21st Century CURES Act dollars are helping to fund Hope Maternal Recovery Housing. In addition, I had a productive meeting with Housing leadership, Montgomery County ADAMHS leadership, and residents, said Portman. The Housing leadership is making fantastic use of the grant money they were awarded, and they provide a wonderful example of how community leaders are working together to find innovative ways to address this crisis in meaningful ways. I will continue to work with local communities across Ohio to help ensure they have the support and funding they need to continue their good work.\nSenator Portman has led efforts in the U.S. Senate toprovide more resourcesto combat the nation's drug addiction epidemic. Portmanis the author of the bipartisanComprehensive Addiction & Recovery Act(CARA) that became law in 2016 and provides resources for evidence-based prevention, treatment, and recovery programs to help people overcome their addiction. The most recent bipartisan funding agreement actually funded these CARA programs at $647 million, much higher than the authorized amount. Portman'sCARA 2.0 Actwould increase these authorization levels further.\nIn addition, Portman worked tosecure $1 billionin new funding for state grants to fight opioid abuse in the21st Century CURES Act.He's also fought for more overall funding to fight addiction, and helped secure more than$4 billionin new funding over the last few years between CARA, CURES and other programs.
