Portman issued the following statement:
“The Smale Riverfront Park project is a critical part of the ongoing renaissance taking place in downtown Cincinnati. I’m pleased that this measure has been signed into law to enhance a park that has helped transform downtown, bring new visitors to the city, and boost the local economy. I remain committed to working with the Army Corps of Engineers on this important project to ensure we finish the park and that taxpayer dollars are spent wisely.”
NOTE: The language in the law secured by Portman requires the Army Corps of Engineers to conduct a feasibility study on the final flood control, ecosystem restoration, and recreation components of Smale Riverfront Park – an effort designed to complete the project. This bill authorizes $30 million to complete work on the park if the Army Corps study determines the components are feasible. If the Army Corps’ study determines that the projects are feasible, Congress would then consider appropriating the money. The bill’s authorization has a federal-state 50:50 matching requirement. This money can be spent on flood risk reduction and ecosystem restoration. Cincinnati Parks and the Army Corps are overseeing the planning, development and building of the park, and funding has included a mix of public and private dollars, including from the federal government. The project has leveraged $6 for every $1 of federal money invested in the project.
###", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at
url
https://www.portman.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/press-releases?ID=675DF317-186B-4620-BE9D-06C66B03CC84
