Extending the Health Coverage Tax Credit is of particular importance to retired United Steelworkers and Delphi salaried retirees struggling to maintain affordable healthcare. The bipartisan amendment was led by Portman and U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio).\r\n\u201cThousands of Delphi Salaried Retirees and their families depend on the Health Coverage Tax Credit and we should be taking every step possible to help these hard-working families regain financial security,\u201d Portman stated. \u201cI urge my colleagues to support this commonsense amendment.\u201d\r\nEarlier this year, the Senate Finance Committee passed an amendment sponsored by Portman and Brown that would extend the HCTC for retirees who lost their health care coverage\u2014in addition to their pensions and other benefits\u2014when the companies for which they worked either entered into bankruptcy or moved operations overseas.
