{"database": "press", "table": "releases", "rows": [["https://www.portman.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/press-releases?ID=f794c528-892d-4093-8755-0ace30d85bf9", "Portman Meets with Piketon Steelworker Union Leadership", "2014-12-09", "2014", "2014-12", "Republican", "House", "OH", "Rob Portman", "P000449", "www.portman.senate.gov", null, null, "legacy", "Washington, D.C. \u2013 Today, U.S. Senator Rob Portman (R-Ohio) met with USW Local 689 President Herman Potter and Evan Brown, USW Representative, to discuss his ongoing efforts and commitment to accelerated cleanup and reindustrialization of the Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant in Piketon, Ohio.\r\nIn September, Portman secured the inclusion of additional funding authority in the Fiscal Year 2015 Continuing Resolution to fund cleanup activities at the Piketon site.\u00a0 The funding helped protect nearly 700 workers at the site who were at risk of being laid-off in October.\u00a0\r\nEarlier this year, Portman and U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) called on the Department of Energy (DOE) to provide answers regarding concerns over funding for the project, which currently employees 1,900 individuals.\r\nIn 2012, Portman worked with the former DOE Secretary, Steven Chu, to increase the cap on the uranium barter program to help cover a gap in appropriated funding.
