Portman discussed the looming budget deadline and the need for economic growth.\r\nExcerpts are below and the entire video of Portman\u2019s interview can be found here.\r\n\u201cI think there's an obvious solution here\u2026We can shift some of the savings from the part of the budget that Congress appropriates ever year to...the two-thirds of the budget that is called mandatory spending. Keep the budget caps in place. Not raise taxes, which is important during this weak economy, and actually avoid a government shutdown. I'm hopeful that even by the end of this week, we\u2019ll be able to come together and achieve that.\u201d  \u2026\r\n\u201cThe key is that we not have another government shutdown, that we do keep the spending caps in place, and that we don't raise taxes at a time when the economy is still weak.
