Under the act, data could not be sold or otherwise used without farmers\u2019 and ranchers\u2019 express written consent.\n\nRicketts also discussed his letter to the Trump Administration on behalf of Nebraska\u2019s corn and soybean producers.\n\n\u201cAs technology expands, farmers and ranchers should be able to choose how they share their expertise. It\u2019s important that we protect their intellectual property,\u201d said Senator Ricketts. \u201cThey shouldn\u2019t be forced to share their data. My Agricultural Data Privacy Act protects that right.\u201d\n\nWatch the video here.\n\nTRANSCRIPT: \u201cAgriculture is the heart and soul of what we do in Nebraska.\n\n\u201cIt is also a knowledge business.\n\n\u201cFarmers and ranchers are experts in their fields.\n\n\u201cThey know what to plant and when.\n\n\u201cThey know every contour of their land.\n\n\u201cEvery day, they perform countless calculations to maximize yield, deliver food, and pay their bills.\n\n\u201cThat expertise represents a lifetime of hard work.\n\n\u201cOften, it\u2019s generations of hard-won lessons and insights.\n\n\u201cFarmers and ranchers have always been happy to share their insights.\n\n\u201cFirst, they published them in almanacs.\n\n\u201cThen, they spoke on radio and wrote into newspapers.\n\n\u201cBut now, internet-connected devices are changing the game.\n\n\u201cSharing on your own terms is one thing.\n\n\u201cBut, as technology expands, farmers and ranchers should be able to choose how they share their expertise.\n\n\u201cIt\u2019s important that we protect their intellectual property.\n\n\u201cThey shouldn\u2019t be forced to share their data.\n\n\u201cMy Agricultural Data Privacy Act protects that right.\n\n\u201cData on climate and weather, land, livestock, and yield are valuable.\n\n\u201cMy bill would require producers\u2019 approval before any company uses their data.\n\n\u201cThat means this data can\u2019t be sold or otherwise be used without farmers\u2019 and ranchers\u2019 expressed, written consent.\n\n\u201cThe consent must be obvious and clean \u2013 not part of a boiler plate language.\n\n\u201cMy Agricultural Data Privacy Act is a proven Nebraska solution ready for America.\n\n\u201cIt\u2019s actually modeled after a recent Nebraska state law.\n\n\u201cThe state law was the first of its kind in the nation.\n\n\u201cNow, it\u2019s being introduced in states like Iowa, Colorado, and Missouri.\n\n\u201cMy bill would make Nebraska\u2019s law the national standard.\n\n\u201cWith harvest season beginning, Nebraska producers are busy.\n\n\u201cThey shouldn\u2019t have to worry about their data being sold while they are working to feed and fuel the world.\n\n\u201cIn the Senate, I\u2019m fighting for our farmers and ranchers so that they can remain focused on growing the safest and highest quality food in the world.\n\n\u201cOur producers also deserve a fair playing field on the international stage.\n\n\u201cTomorrow, the White House will host Xi Jinping.\n\n\u201cAhead of the visit, this morning I sent a letter to the administration advocating for Nebraska\u2019s beef and soybean producers.\n\n\u201cFor too long, Communist China has undercut U.S. commodity markets.\n\n\u201cI urged the administration to hold Communist China accountable to trade commitments and ensure that our producers have fair and reliable market access.\n\n\u201cNebraska farmers and ranchers can compete with anybody in the world. \u201cI will keep fighting to ensure they can do just that.\u201d", 1, "2026-09-25T10:04:52Z", "2026-09-25T10:05:46Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://www.ricketts.senate.gov/news/press-releases/video-ricketts-introduces-agricultural-data-privacy-act/"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.7916691247373819, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
