Ben Sasse was back on the Senate floor Thursday to renew his criticism of the Obama administrations aversion to identifying Americas enemy as militant Islam.\r\n\r\nThe Nebraska Republican read portions of a World-Herald story quoting Deputy National Security Adviser Ben Rhodes laying out the argument for avoiding such terms in describing the terrorist group commonly referred to as ISIL or ISIS.\r\n\r\nFor one thing, Rhodes said, using such terms gives terrorists the recognition as religious leaders that they crave. And he said it feeds the terrorists narrative of a United States at war with Islam.\r\n\r\n\r\nBut Sasse said its foolish to ignore the religious aspect of terrorism. He displayed a poster that spelled out words behind the acronym ISIL  Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. Except Sasses poster had question marks after the first I in Islamic.\r\n\r\n\r\nEvery fourth-grader in America can deduce without any assistance from Vanna White what the rest of the word that begins with an I is, and yet the White House insists that no one should use the word, Sasse said. They are dealing with a world that they wish were so, as opposed to the world with which were called to struggle.\r\n\r\n\r\nSasse said identifying the enemy is necessary to crafting a successful policy for the Middle East. Intelligence and national security professionals, he said, are hampered by the administrations approach.\r\nRead the full article at theOmaha World-Herald.", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://www.sasse.senate.gov//public/index.cfm/in-the-news?ContentRecord_id=047B13E7-D5BD-4E87-958A-0ACA3D9A6585"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 3.55716934427619, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
