Schumer today announced the federal Economic Development Administration (EDA) has awarded $70,000 to six different regional planning and development boards around the state to develop and implement a comprehensive economic development strategy that supports private capital investment and job creation in the region. The six groups receiving funding, and the counties that will be included in the economic development strategy, are:\r\n\r\n \r\nMohawk Valley Economic Development District:Fulton, Herkimer, Montgomery, Oneida, Otsego, and Schoharie\r\nCentral New York Regional Planning and Development Board:Cayuga, Cortland, Madison, Onondaga, and Oswego, and the city of Syracuse\r\nGenesee Finger Lakes Regional Planning Council:Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Orleans, Seneca, Wayne, Wyoming, and Yates\r\nSouthern Tier West Regional Planning and Development Board:Allegany, Chautauqua, and Cattaraugus\r\nSouthern Tier East Regional Planning and Development Commission:Broome, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, and Tioga\r\nLake Champlain-Lake George Regional Planning and Development Board:Clinton, Essex, Hamilton, Warren, and Washington\r\n \r\n\r\nHaving a clear, strategic vision for creating jobs and attracting private investment is key to strengthening regional economies around the state, said Schumer. This federal funding will help economic development experts in the Mohawk Valley, Central New York, Finger Lakes, Southern Tier, and Adirondacks develop the type of comprehensive strategy that can provide a real shot in the arm to the regional economy.\r\n\r\nAs the only federal government agency focused exclusively on economic development, the U.S. Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration (EDA) plays a critical role in fostering regional economic development efforts in communities across the nation.
