Named in honor of Scott\u2019s grandfather, the Artis Ware Center will work to provide hope to every South Carolina child through the power of a strong education.\n\nSenator Scott speaks with students at Five Oaks Academy\n\n\u201cI\u2019ve often said that education is the closest thing we have to magic in America, and it is an honor to join Palmetto Promise Institute in announcing The Artis Ware Center for Education Opportunity,\u201d said Senator Scott. \u201cMy granddaddy Artis knew that education was key to achieving the American Dream and I cannot think of a more fitting tribute to his life than supporting the mission to give every single child in our state the opportunity to reach their God-given potential.\u201d\n\n\u201cA great education means hope,\u201d Palmetto Promise Institute\u2019s President Ellen Weaver said. \u201cWe are grateful for the opportunity to honor Artis Ware and the amazing impact of his life. His reverence for the power of an education he was personally denied has shone as a beacon of promise for his own family, and through the work of this Center, his example will shine for generations of South Carolinians still to come.\u201d\n\nSenator Scott, PPI President Weaver, and Former Senator DeMint speak via Zoom\n\nSenator Scott and PPI President Ellen Weaver toured Five Oaks Academy in Simpsonville to see Montessori learning in action and speak with teachers, students, and school administrators. Following the tour, Scott and Weaver participated in a webinar, during which they talked about the Artis Ware Center and discussed the future of education with former Senator Jim DeMint.\n\nBackground:\n\nSenator Scott has long championed educational opportunity for all children.
