If these schools don\u2019t change their ways, my legislation hits them where it hurts \u2013 their pocketbooks. No college or university should receive a single cent from the federal government to fund violent antisemitism.\u201d\n\nThis legislation comes on the heels of:\n\nGeorgetown University, Columbia University, the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), New York University (NYU) and more who have hosted marches and rallies in coordination with Students for Justice in Palestine, a group which called Hamas\u2019 attack \u201ca historic win for the Palestinian resistance;\u201d\n\nThe University of Pennsylvania hosting a Palestine Writes Literature Festival, which promoted speakers with a history of antisemitic remarks; and more.\n\nAccording to the Anti-Defamation League, violent language and threats against the Jewish community and Israel increased 488% in the first 18 hours after Hamas\u2019 attack on Israeli civilians. Some examples include:\n\nHarvard University\u2019s silence regarding over thirty Harvard student organizations releasing a statement blaming Israel for the Hamas terrorist attacks carried out against Israeli civilians;\n\nA Cornell professor calling the Hamas terror attacks \u201cexhilarating\u201d and \u201cexciting\u201d; and\n\nA Columbia professor praised Hamas\u2019 actions as \u201castonishing,\u201d \u201castounding,\u201d \u201cawesome\u201d and \u201cincredible.\u201d\n\nCongressman Mike Lawler (R, N.Y.) introduced the companion legislation in the House of Representatives.", 1, "2026-03-30T01:40:41Z", "2026-04-06T18:43:12Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://www.scott.senate.gov/media-center/press-releases/senator-tim-scott-introduces-legislation-to-defund-colleges-and-universities-that-promote-antisemitism/"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 2.1675920579582453, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
