Asked whether he would raise the issue with President Xi, the President said, “I think he’s behaved reasonably well.”

“I have many concerns about your China policy and President Xi’s state visit to Washington next week,” wrote Slotkin. “Your insistence on rolling out the red carpet for our adversaries and kicking our allies in the teeth is beyond me. But I would hope, as commander-in-chief of the armed forces, the provision of targeting information by China to help Iran kill American servicemembers would be something even you can’t tolerate. Unfortunately, this does not appear to be the case.”

Slotkin urged the President to make clear to President Xi that this support “must stop immediately.” She also called on the President to provide troops, military families, and the American public with a clear accounting of the actions he will take to protect U.S. forces.

“For months, we have known that Chinese companies are helping the Iranian military target and attempt to kill U.S. troops,” continued Slotkin. “But new reporting now shows that this support from China may have directly contributed to the deaths of American servicemembers.”

Slotkin’s letter criticizes Trump’s decision to enter this war with Iran without congressional authorization, noting that 18 American service members have been killed so far and more than 820 have been wounded.

Read the CBS News story here.

The full text of the letter is available here.", 1, "2026-09-22T09:42:49Z", "2026-09-22T09:44:35Z
url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at
url
https://www.slotkin.senate.gov/2026/09/21/icymi-slotkin-presses-trump-on-chinas-role-in-iran-war-ahead-of-thursday-state-visit/
