{"database": "press", "table": "releases", "rows": [["https://www.thune.senate.gov/news/press-releases/thune-on-permitting-reform-democrats-need-to-take-yes-for-an-answer/", "Thune on Permitting Reform: Democrats Need to Take Yes for an Answer", "2026-09-23", "2026", "2026-09", "Republican", "Senate", "SD", "John Thune", "T000250", "www.thune.senate.gov", "thune", "https://www.thune.senate.gov/news/press-releases/", "scraper", "Click here to watch the video.\n\nWASHINGTON \u2014 U.S. Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) today spoke at a press conference with Senate Republican leadership:\n\nThune\u2019s remarks below (as delivered):\n\n\u201cAs you all know, Republicans in this Congress have focused on several things.\n\n\u201cOne is safer streets, secondly is more money in the American people\u2019s pockets, and finally, it\u2019s new opportunities for people to get ahead.\n\n\u201cAnd on all those fronts, we have delivered.\n\n\u201cThe border is more secure today than it has ever been.\n\n\u201cCrime is at historically low levels.\n\n\u201cAnd thanks to the Working Families Tax Cuts legislation, people have more money in their pockets \u2013 not only now, but permanently, because that tax relief has been made permanent.\n\n\u201cAnd then you couple that with things like the newborn Trump Accounts, the new and created Opportunity Zones that are happening out there as a result of that legislation, and things like the expanded child tax credit, expanded \u2026 child care credits \u2026\n\n\u201cThose are all things that were included in that legislation that, as time rolls forward, people are going to have an opportunity to benefit from, and it is going to result in more money in their pockets.\n\n\u201cI will say, the one thing that we would like to be able to get done before we leave is permitting reform.\n\n\u201cThat\u2019s something that has economic consequences.\n\n\u201cIt\u2019s very hard in this country to get energy projects permitted and ready to roll, and so we would like to see action on that.\n\n\u201cThat\u2019s something that we\u2019re going to find out here, I think, pretty soon whether the Democrats are willing to take yes for an answer on that.\n\n\u201cBut it has consequences for all the things that we\u2019re talking about today \u2013 probably most importantly, energy prices.\n\n\u201cSo if you can build more, create more energy in this country, build more refineries, it makes that much energy more available and more affordable for the American people.\n\n\u201cSo we\u2019ll know soon enough on that, but I think as you all know, that would be a very consequential development if we could get the Democrats to be willing to take yes for an answer, and I think we\u2019re going to know that here soon enough.\n\n\u201cSo those are the things that we\u2019re going to be working on yet this week, and we\u2019ll keep you posted as we know more on permitting reform, and Senator Capito will, I assume, have something to report on that pretty soon.\u201d", 1, "2026-09-24T09:44:48Z", "2026-09-24T09:45:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://www.thune.senate.gov/news/press-releases/thune-on-permitting-reform-democrats-need-to-take-yes-for-an-answer/"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.8332510478794575, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
