{"database": "press", "table": "releases", "rows": [["https://www.thune.senate.gov/news/press-releases/thune-urges-colleagues-to-support-clean-bipartisan-bill-to-fund-the-government/", "Thune Urges Colleagues to Support Clean, Bipartisan Bill to Fund the Government", "2026-07-30", "2026", "2026-07", "Republican", "Senate", "SD", "John Thune", "T000250", "www.thune.senate.gov", "thune", "https://www.thune.senate.gov/news/press-releases/", "scraper", "Click here to watch the video.\n\nWASHINGTON \u2014 U.S. Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) today delivered the following remarks on the Senate floor:\n\nThune\u2019s remarks below (as delivered):\n\n\u201cMr. President, next week, our top priority will be funding the government until [after] the November election.\n\n\u201cThe American people have faced two \u2013 two \u2013 record-breaking government shutdowns in the past 10 months.\n\n\u201cWe need to ensure that they do not face a third.\n\n\u201cWe owe the American people some certainty here.\n\n\u201cThey should not have to be hoping and praying that, on September 30th, that the government will get funded and that government services will continue.\n\n\u201cI don\u2019t think I need to tell anyone in this body that government shutdowns serve no one \u2013 not members of either party, and most of all not the American people.\n\n\u201cShutdowns strain our national security agencies.\n\n\u201cThey threaten military, law enforcement, and civilian pay.\n\n\u201cThey endanger nutrition benefits.\n\n\u201cFarm programs.\n\n\u201cAnd a whole lot of other stuff.\n\n\u201cThey\u2019re bad for our economy.\n\n\u201cThey snarl air travel.\n\n\u201cMr. President, I could go on.\n\n\u201cShutdowns hit our country \u2013 they hit the American people \u2013 hard.\n\n\u201cAnd we owe it to the American people to ensure that they do not face another shutdown this fall.\n\n\u201cThat\u2019s why Senate Appropriations Committee Chair Collins has been hard at work drafting a clean, bipartisan continuing resolution to fund the government through the November elections.\n\n\u201cI appreciate everything that she has done to make this happen \u2013 engaging with members of both parties, and working through the necessary anomalies from the Office of Management and Budget.\n\n\u201cAnd I intend to bring the CR to the floor for a vote next week.\n\n\u201cAgain, I would emphasize that the appropriators are working in good faith to produce a clean, bipartisan product, free of poison pills.\n\n\u201cAnd I hope that that will ensure a robust bipartisan vote next week, so that the American people don\u2019t have to spend the next two months wondering if the Senate is going to do its job.\n\n\u201cBecause that\u2019s what this is, Mr. President.\n\n\u201cOur job.\n\n\u201cFunding the government is our most basic responsibility as members of Congress.\n\n\u201cAnd we owe it to the American people to get that job done \u2013 and done now.\n\n\u201cI urge all of my colleagues to support the clean, bipartisan continuing resolution and to get our government funded.\u201d", 1, "2026-07-31T07:49:23Z", "2026-07-31T07:50:48Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://www.thune.senate.gov/news/press-releases/thune-urges-colleagues-to-support-clean-bipartisan-bill-to-fund-the-government/"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.8079258259385824, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
