{"database": "press", "table": "releases", "rows": [["https://www.thune.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/press-releases?ID=22D5257A-48ED-420C-8228-6CEA38C9E96D", "Thune to Senate Democrats: Time to Stop the Political Theater and Reopen the Government", "2025-10-21", "2025", "2025-10", "Republican", "Senate", "SD", "John Thune", "T000250", "www.thune.senate.gov", "thune", "https://www.thune.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/press-releases", "scraper", "Clickhereto watch the video.\n\nWASHINGTON \u2014 U.S. Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) today spoke at a press conference at the White House with Senate Republican leadership:\n\nThune\u2019s remarks below (as delivered):\n\n\u201cWe just had a great opportunity to meet with the president and talk about something that unifies all Republicans.\n\n\u201cSenate Republicans, House Republicans, and the president of the United States are all in favor of reopening the federal government \u2013 in fact, so much so that we\u2019ve now all voted 11 times to reopen the federal government.\n\n\u201cBut the longer the federal government stays closed, the more the impacts are being felt: travel delays, benefit delays, you know, farmers are being impacted, millions of people going without paychecks.\n\n\u201cThat\u2019s what this government shutdown, Democrat government shutdown, is bringing to the American people.\n\n\u201cSo we\u2019re hopeful that this will be the week when we break out of this and the Democrats come to their senses and decide to open up the government.\n\n\u201cWe\u2019re going to give them several opportunities, as you know, to do that.\n\n\u201cWe\u2019ll have another vote on the continuing resolution tomorrow \u2013 which is sitting at the desk of the Senate, can be sent down here to the White House, signed into law, the government would open up immediately.\n\n\u201cWe\u2019re also going to vote on a Ron Johnson resolution that essentially would pay anybody who\u2019s currently working.\n\n\u201cSo we\u2019ll see how the Democrats react to that.\n\n\u201cBut the truth of the matter is, you have a bunch of people here, a united team that believes profoundly that we need to get our government open.\n\n\u201cAnd if the Democrats want to talk about subjects unrelated to \u2026 getting the government open again, we\u2019re happy to have those conversations, but we\u2019ve repeatedly now gone through this, and at some point the Democrats are going to have to [take] yes for an answer.\n\n\u201cWe want a normal appropriations process.\n\n\u201cWe want to give them an opportunity to sit down and litigate some of the issues they want to talk about, but that can\u2019t happen until the government gets opened up again.\u201d", 1, "2026-03-30T01:40:41Z", "2026-04-06T19:32:54Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://www.thune.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/press-releases?ID=22D5257A-48ED-420C-8228-6CEA38C9E96D"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.9967901278287172, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
